Our Technology for Healthy Eyes

At Arora Optometry, we invest in innovative eye care technologies that enhance our standard of care and assist us in detecting signs of eye conditions before serious conditions arise.

From detecting and monitoring signs of childhood myopia to managing serious eye diseases like glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic eye disease, our technology helps us keep an eye on what matters most: your visual health.

Learn more about the different devices we use in our comprehensive eye exams. We’re happy to answer any questions you may have about our technology during your appointment.

OCT and Retinal Imaging

Retinal imaging provides a solid base for examining your eye health. This test captures an image of the inside of your eye, showing a high-resolution image of your retina, blood vessels, and optic nerve head. OCT, or optical coherence tomography, is a newer addition to eye care, which captures a cross-sectional image of the eye using light waves to map the different layers of the eye.

We use the Topcon Maestro device to complete both our retinal imaging and OCT scans. These tests are important for analyzing your general eye health, as well as monitoring conditions like diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration, and glaucoma.

Topcon MYAH

The Topcon MYAH is an optical biometer and corneal topographer, which means it can measure the length of the eye, the shape of the cornea (the clear, front part of the eye), and the size of the pupils. The MYAH is an important part of our myopia management monitoring and treatment plans.

When myopia, or nearsightedness, begins during childhood, it is usually progressive. This means it can worsen significantly and rapidly as the child’s eyes grow. One key way that we monitor for signs of myopia is through an axial length measurement. This test measures the length of the eye from front to back and plots this distance on a growth chart compared to a non-myopic eye.

In individuals with high myopia, the axial length is often far longer than in those without myopia. This increased length comes with a higher risk of serious conditions such as retinal detachment, myopic maculopathy, and cataracts. By examining trends, we can catch signs of myopia in children before they have a prescription. Additionally, this device helps us track the efficacy of their treatment plan.

Beyond axial length measurement, the Topcon MYAH can also provide the measurements necessary to fit contact lenses, which may be part of your child’s myopia treatment plan.

Digital Phoropter

A phoropter is the device that looks like a large, funky pair of glasses that your optometrist uses to find your prescription. A digital phoropter makes the prescription process smoother and easier.

The digital phoropter streamlines the process, so you’ll need to spend less time deciding between options 1 or 2. It also helps make the process easier when you have astigmatism or different prescriptions in each eye.

As well, we can easily show you the difference between your old prescription and your new one, so you can clearly see the difference.

Visual Field Analyzer

Your visual field refers to the entire area you can see up, down, left, and right, while your eyes are fixed on a central point. In other words, your visual field includes both your central and peripheral (side) vision.

Testing your visual field is important to receive your driving licence, as well as for certain professions. It can also indicate signs of disease, like glaucoma, which gradually impacts your peripheral vision, often imperceptibly.

We use the RetinaLogik VR headset to objectively measure your visual field, making the process simple with reliable results.

Technology Supports a Professional Assessment

Our technologies help to enhance our level of care and make monitoring your eye health easier. They don’t, however, replace the knowledge and experience of an optometrist who will review the results of your diagnostic tests and complete their own assessment.

Our goal is to make your eye care as simple and stress-free as possible, and our technology helps us achieve this. If you’re interested in seeing our technology in action or have any questions about the devices used during your comprehensive eye exam, we’re happy to assist!
