Experience the Freedom of Vision Correction

Imagine waking up in the morning and seeing the world clearly without reaching for your glasses

Laser eye surgery has transformed the lives of countless Canadians by significantly reducing, or even eliminating, their reliance on corrective eyewear. Whether you’re an active adventurer tired of fogged-up lenses or a professional looking for daily convenience, this life-changing procedure offers a path to visual freedom.

We can help you start your journey with an in-depth consultation to determine if laser vision correction is the right choice for your eyes and lifestyle.

Are You a Good Candidate for Laser Eye Surgery?

While laser eye surgery is a fantastic solution for many, it isn’t a one-size-fits-all procedure. To enhance results and for a safe recovery, we look for several key factors during our assessment:

  • Your vision should be stable with no major prescription changes in recent years
  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • Your eyes must be free of infections, severe dry eye, or conditions like glaucoma
  • Your corneas (the clear, front part of the eye) need to be thick enough for a safe procedure.

Understanding Your Laser Eye Surgery Options

Laser eye surgery is a group of procedures, each a little different from one another, that use highly precise lasers to reshape the cornea, allowing light to focus correctly on the retina.

Laser eye surgery can be used to correct refractive errors such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. It’s important to note that although laser eye surgery can correct blurry vision caused by myopia, it does not reduce the health risks associated with high myopia. Your eye doctor will still need to monitor your eyes carefully for any associated complications if you have a high myopia prescription.

In Canada, two of the most common procedures are LASIK and PRK.

LASIK is the most popular choice due to its fast recovery time. During a LASIK procedure, a tiny, circular flap is created on the surface of the cornea. Then the laser reshapes the underlying tissue, and the flap is laid back in place. Most patients notice significantly improved vision within 24 hours.

PRK is often recommended for patients with thinner corneas or specific lifestyle needs. Instead of creating a flap, the very top layer of the cornea is gently removed before the laser reshapes the eye. While the healing process takes a bit longer than LASIK (usually a few days to a week), the long-term visual results are similar.

Take the First Step: Your Laser Eye Surgery Consultation

The most effective way to determine if laser eye surgery will achieve your desired results is through a professional consultation. During this visit, your optometrist will perform a detailed evaluation of your eye structure and discuss what you can realistically expect from the procedure.

We believe in empowering our patients to make informed decisions, which is why we take the time to explain the potential risks, such as temporary dry eye or nighttime glare, alongside the many benefits. We are here to guide you, answer your questions, and provide the referrals and follow-up care you need for a successful outcome. Book an appointment for a consultation today and see if laser eye surgery is a good fit for you
