Proactive Protection for Your Vision
Many eye diseases are often referred to as “silent” because they can develop and progress without any noticeable symptoms or pain in the early stages. By the time you notice changes to your vision, irreversible damage may have already occurred.
This is why preventive health care through routine eye exams is so vital. At Arora Optometry, we focus on proactively monitoring your eyes to keep them healthy and functional for years to come.
Whether you have specific concerns or simply want to stay on top of your ocular health, booking routine eye exams with our team to find the support and clarity you deserve.
The Importance of Early Detection
Our eye clinic is built on a foundation of preventive care. At Arora Optometry, we strive to detect a problem before you even notice it’s there.
To achieve this, we combine routine comprehensive eye exams with innovative diagnostic technology. Tools such as retinal imaging and optical coherence tomography (OCT) allow us to see beneath the surface of the eye, identifying microscopic changes to your eyes that might otherwise go unseen.
With early detection, we have more effective treatment options available, resulting in a better long-term outlook for your vision.
Glaucoma Management
Glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight” because it develops without symptoms during early stages.
It is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve, often due to abnormally high pressure inside the eye. This damage can lead to permanent peripheral vision loss. The most common types include open-angle glaucoma, which develops slowly over time, and angle-closure glaucoma, which can be a sudden medical emergency.
We screen for glaucoma during our routine eye exams.
While anyone can develop glaucoma, certain factors increase your risk, including:
- Age (typically over 60)
- Family history of the condition
- Specific medical conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure
- Injuries to the eye or the surrounding area
We use a suite of diagnostic tools to detect and manage glaucoma with precision, including:
- Applanation Tonometry: Accurately measures your internal eye pressure using a small, flat-tipped probe.
- OCT Scans: Provides high-definition mapping of the eye, particularly the layers of the retina and optic nerve, to check for signs of glaucoma.
- Visual Field Testing: Objectively measures your peripheral vision to check for any changes or “blind spots” that could indicate glaucoma.
Other Common Eye Diseases We Manage
We integrate eye care technology into our thorough clinical evaluations and open discussions to assess your risk for various conditions. By understanding your lifestyle, health history, and family history, we can determine if you are at high risk for different eye conditions.
Certain eye conditions, such as glaucoma, AMD, and diabetic eye disease, need consistent monitoring after detection, as they can be managed but not cured. Others, such as conjunctivitis, can be treated after a proper evaluation and diagnosis.
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a progressive eye disease that impacts your sharp, central vision. It has two types: dry, which progresses slowly and results from the degeneration of central macular tissue, and wet, which progresses quickly and is characterized by blood vessels leaking under the macula.
We use OCT and retinal imaging to monitor the health of the macula and look for signs of “dry” or “wet” AMD. If we detect signs of AMD< we will refer you to a specialist for management.
Cataracts are the clouding of the eyes’ natural lenses. We monitor your eyes for signs of cataracts and update your eyewear as necessary to keep your vision clear. When necessary, we provide surgery co-management, helping you prepare for the procedure and providing all the necessary follow-up care and prescription updates after your surgery.
Diabetic eye disease is a group of conditions that occur as a result of diabetes complications. High blood sugar levels caused by unmanaged diabetes can damage the blood vessels in the eye, causing swelling, increased eye pressure, and blurry vision. Left untreated, diabetic eye disease can lead to permanent vision loss.
We use OCT scans and retinal imaging to screen for diabetic eye disease to protect your sight.
Dry eye is a common, chronic condition that causes uncomfortable, irritated eyes. Dry eye results from an imbalance of your tear film and has many possible causes.
Conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, is the inflammation of the conjunctiva. This is the thin, transparent layer that covers the front of the eyes and inside of the eyelids.
This inflammation can be viral, bacterial, allergic, or chemical. Symptoms include redness, itching, and discharge. Viral and bacterial conjunctivitis are both very contagious, but require different treatments. A professional exam is necessary to diagnose the specific type and provide an effective treatment plan.
Floaters look like small spots or “cobwebs” in your vision. While often normal, a sudden increase in floaters, especially when accompanied by flashes of light, can be a sign of retinal detachment, which requires immediate medical attention.
